Rest assured, your e-mail will never be shared, sold, or used in any way other than by Josh McCulloch Photography and Photoshelter, should the need arise. Once you have signed up and are logged in, you will be able to take advantage of the features listed below, including lightboxes, lo-res "comp" downloads, and purchasing images.

Using the Lightbox

The lightbox is a powerful tool that enables you to store multiple groups of images. You can save lightboxes to return to later, and share lightboxes between multiple users or creative teams. Note that you must create an account in order to save and share your lightboxes.

Assume you are an editor working on a magazine story about the West Coast Trail. Using the "Search" link at the top right of any stock images page, search joshmcculloch.com for West Coast Trail images. When you find an image you like, click the "Add to Lightbox" link beside that image. A pop-up window will appear. Choose a name for your lightbox (we'll use "WCT Images" for this demo), type that name into the "New Lightbox" field, and click "Add to Lightbox". This image will now be stored in your "WCT Images" lightbox.

You may continue to search and add images to your lightbox as described above using your new lightbox called "WCT Images". When you click the "Add to Lightbox" link beside an image, choose "WCT Images" from the drop-down menu in the pop-up window, and then click "Add to Lightbox".

Once you have finished adding images to your "WCT Images" lightbox, click the Lightbox link at the top of any page to view your saved lightboxes. There will now be a lightbox named "WCT Images". Click on it to see your collection of saved images. There is no limit to the number of images you can add to a lightbox, and there is no limit on the number of lightboxes you can make.

Lightboxes are automatically saved for you, and when you return to joshmcculloch.com in the future, you can sign in, click on the "Lightbox" link at the top of any page, and your collection of "WCT Images" will be there for you.

Sharing the Lightbox

Lightboxes can also be shared. To share a lightbox, just select the lightbox you want to share by clicking on its name from your list of lightboxes, then click the "Share" button. Enter the e-mail address of the person you want to share the lightbox with, and then enter their first and last name. Finally, click the "Share Lightbox" button. An e-mail will be sent to the person you entered with a link inviting them directly to your lightbox.

If the person you shared the lightbox with has been to joshmcculloch.com and has an account, they will just need to enter their password to see the shared lightbox. If they have not been to the site before, they will be required to choose a password to see the lightbox. Once they choose a password and enter the site, they now have their own account and can view the lightbox, and return to it at any time by entering their e-mail address and password. They may now create and share their own lightboxes, and purchase images.

Other Lightbox Features

Other lightbox features include the ability to rate images, and leave comments. These tools can be invaluable when working as part of a creative team. If a team member is not able to be at a meeting, they can log on to joshmcculloch.com, view the shared lightbox, and see image ratings and comments left by other team members during the meeting. The creator of the lightbox has control over who may leave comments and ratings.

Licensing Images

Images may be purchased from joshmcculloch.com in a number of ways. The first step is finding the image you want to buy. Please see the "Stock Images" and "Search" links at the top of any page to help you find an appropriate image. Once you find an image, click either the "Buy Rights-Managed" button, or the "Buy Royalty-Free" button. Note that an image will be either Rights-Managed or Royalty-Free, not both. See the chart below for a breakdown of the basic differences between these two licensing types:

Rights-Managed Images ("RM Images")

Licensing: The licensing of RM images is at all times subject to limitations on use as specifically agreed upon by you and Josh McCulloch Photography in advance. The terms of licensing will specify such things as the media in which the RM image will appear, the name of the end user (e.g. you or your client, if applicable), geographical distribution, size of reproduction, duration of use and exclusivity required.

Fees: RM licensing fees are determined by the specific manner in which you will use an RM Image.

Credit or cancellation policy: A full credit or refund is allowed if an RM license is cancelled within 30 days for any reason.

Free high-res "comping" images: If you have approved client status, you can obtain a high-resolution file of any RM image from Josh McCulloch Photography for inspection and comping purposes.

Usage history available: Josh McCulloch Photography can provide you with details of current and prior uses of any RM image.

Exclusive rights may be available.

Royalty-Free Images ("RF Images")

Licensing: The licensing of RF images permits you to reproduce an RF Image in unlimited media, for unlimited "proper" purposes (i.e. not for pornographic, defamatory, unethical or unlawful uses) for an unlimited period of time.

Fees: RF licensing fees are fixed, solely based on the size of the RF Image file. RF images on joshmcculloch.com are available in 4 sizes.

No cancellation rights: An RF license is non-refundable.

No high-res comping rights: In order to obtain a high-resolution RF image from Josh McCulloch, you must purchase an RF license.

No usage history available.

Exclusive rights are not available.

Once you have found the image you need, and have clicked the "Buy" button, you will be presented with one of two options.

If the image is an "RM" image, you will be required to enter the intended use of the image, including usage type, duration, size, distribution area and quantity, etc. A price will be calculated for you, and you can select either "Buy it Now", which will take you to the checkout page, or "Save for Purchase" which will save this image and the licensing details for you to review later.

If the image is an "RF" image, you must choose the file size you want, and then click the "Add to Cart" button.

Once you have clicked "Buy Now" or added the image to your cart, you can click on the "Cart" link from any page on the site to see your shopping cart and proceed to the checkout.

Payment

Online payment for image licenses is available directly through Paypal, a worldwide online payment processing service. Paypal accepts all major credit cards, and does not require any special account. Once you click the "Continue to Checkout" button, check to ensure that your order is accurate. Once you are sure everything is correct, click the "Continue with Payment" button. You will be taken to a custom Paypal page where you enter your billing and payment information. After completing payment, you will be returned to joshmcculloch.com where a link to the file(s) you purchased will be available. These links are available for 96 hours from the date of purchase, and can be found at any time by logging in to you account, clicking on the Client Area link at the top of any page, and then selecting the "My Downloads" link for this page. The "Client Area" is the place to track all purchases, downloads, and account details.

Buyers with approved client status may opt to have Josh McCulloch Photography invoice them directly for licensing fees instead of paying online. Approved clients are also able to download High-Res comps without any approval (all low and high-res downloads are tracked automatically by client name, e-mail address and IP address). These services are usually reserved for clients that have an established working relationship with Josh McCulloch Photography. If you would like to be considered for this option, please contact Josh directly.
