Fireweed is a wildflower native to the west coast of Canada commonly found in open fields, pastures, roadsides and burned-over lands. The name Fireweed derives from the species’ abundance on burnt sites after forest fires. These plants will live as long as there is open space and plenty of light, but as surrounding trees and brush grow larger, they die out. The seeds can remain in the soil for many years, germinating when a new fire or other disturbance occurs that opens up the ground to light. After a fire, the entire area can be covered with pure stands of Fireweed, and when in bloom, the landscape turns to a field of pink. NOTE: This card is blank inside. Card Price: $3.95 CDN |
