Walbran Beach is one of many spectacular beaches along Vancouver Island’s famous West Coast Trail. Initially built as a life saving trail for survivors of shipwrecks in the late 1800’s, the West Coast Trail was included in Canada’s Pacific Rim National Park Reserve in 1973. The Walbran River flows through the heart of Vancouver Island’s old-growth temperate rainforest before spilling into the Pacific Ocean at Walbran Beach. Black bears, wolves, cougars and bald eagles can be seen in the area, and in the spring and summer months, grey whales pass close to shore on their annual migration to feeding grounds off the coast of Alaska.
