CWC0004
The area now covered by Canada’s famous West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island passes through the traditional territory of the Pacheenaht, Ditidaht and Huu-ay-aht people, members of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations, who have inhabitated the area for over 4000 years. European use of the trail was originally for the construction and maintenance of a telegraph line between Victoria and Cape Beale. Due to the high number of shipwrecks along this stretch of coast in the late 19th century, construction of the "Dominion Life Saving Trail" began, and was completed in 1907. This was later renamed the West Coast Trail and included in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The 100th anniversary of the trail was celebrated in 2007. NOTE: This card is blank inside. Card Price: $3.95 CDN |
